Emergency Medical Relief

Train wrecks

Ferry sinking in the Philippines

Massive Tsunami Throughout Asia

Terrorist Bombings in India, Indonesia, Philippines

Flooding and landslides in Bangaldesh, Philippines, Cambodia

Tragic Earthquakes in Kashmere, China, Pakistan, Japan, Taiwan and others

Every year we can hear of any one of the above emergencies. One never knows when they will happen. One never knows where they will happen. One never knows if they will be in locations where few or many people will be involved and whether there will be adequate medical help that is able to reach those with medical needs in time.

This is one area that Medical Compassion International would like to have a part in making a difference in the life of the people of Asia. How can this be done? Most of the relief teams that we have knowledge of originate in the USA. These are great teams and they certainly should never be discouraged. In fact, they should eagerly be supported with finances and volunteer service. Most of the volunteers in this country are able to, not only, give of their time and skills, but also make it all possible by covering personal expenses including travel costs, food and lodging themselves.

How does Medical Compassion International plan to improve on this system? There are medical emergency needs around the world each year. USA Medical teams do their best to meet those needs. Distance, at times, can slow down the process of getting the team on site as quickly as possible. Through contacts that MCI’s Program Manager has in the Philippines, there is a plan to establish an emergency medical relief organization based in the Philippines. As the Philippines used to be the center of the U.S.A. military bases in Asia, the Philippines is also an ideal center for a medical emergency and disaster relief organization. All of the nations of Asia can be easily reached from the international airports in the Philippines.

Another part of the program is to gather a network of many medical professionals including doctors, nurses, laboratory technologists, and X-ray technicians both from the Philippines and the US. This network will be the reservoir of volunteers for the teams when medical emergencies arise in the Asian region.

Whereas the American volunteer medical professionals are able to pay their personal expenses for helping in different parts of the world, there are many Filipino professionals who would like to be a part of such a team but are unable to do so due to low income.

What part will Medical Compassion International have in this relief program? The Project Manager will be in the Philippines until the middle of 2011. He will be involved in finding a group of individuals who will form an organization with the purpose of establishing a medical relief team. As donors share, MCI will be able to help provide such things as medicines and equipment. MCI will also be able to help pay, through the Philippine organization, what are considered personal costs for the professionals that are unable to do so themselves.

Please consider making a donation. You can have a part in making this project a reality.
